The various parts of the tree Viz: leaves, stems & buds yield
essential oils on steam distillation and the
oils are commercially identified as Clove Leaf
Oil, Clove Stem Oil & Clove Bud Oil, which
are most valued.
They contain varying amounts of Eugenol and a
characteristics array of terpene. These terpenes,
in high abundance in Sri Lanka cloves, give the
oil the flavor that places it in demand as a
flavoring agent.
